Putrajaya, 30 December 2025 \u2014The Sustainable Energy Development Authority <\/strong>(SEDA) Malaysia<\/strong> successfully organised a webinar titled \u201cArtificial Intelligence (AI) and Its Role in the Energy Sector,\u201d bringing together young audience with a strong interest to explore how advanced digital technologies are shaping the future of
\nsustainable energy.<\/p>\n

Held via Microsoft Teams digital platform, the webinar served as a strategic knowledge sharing session in support of Malaysia\u2019s clean energy agenda and as an early
\nengagement initiative in the lead-up to the International Sustainable Energy Summit
\n(ISES) 2026.<\/p>\n

The opening address from Dr. Khairunnisa Kamarul Zaman, Deputy Director of
\nStrategic Planning of SEDA Malaysia who emphasised on SEDA\u2019s role as Malaysia\u2019s
\nkey sustainable energy organisation, while highlighting the importance of youth
\nengagement across SEDA\u2019s programmes and initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cSEDA recognises the energy transition as a long-term journey that requires the
\ninvolvement of the younger generation, particularly those with skills and interest in AI and
\ndigital technologies,\u201d said Dr. Khairunnisa.<\/p>\n

The main sharing session was delivered by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Ibrahim
\nShapiai @ Abd. Razak, Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
\n(CAIRO) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), who highlighted the growing
\nimportance of AI and demonstrated how AI-driven technologies can be applied to address
\nreal-world challenges in the energy sector, including applications in smart cities.
\nMr. Saiful Hakim Abdul Rahman, Director of Strategic Planning at the SEDA
\nMalaysia, shared insights on the implementation of AI in Malaysia\u2019s energy sector,
\ncovering areas such as energy demand forecasting, system optimisation and smart grid
\nmanagement, as well as the challenges and way forward in advancing AI development
\nand adoption in the country.<\/p>\n

The webinar concluded with the soft launch of the SEDA Innovation Challenge (SIC)
\nby Mr. Saiful Hakim. The initiative is designed to encourage youth to develop innovative
\nideas and solutions for sustainable energy, while recognising AI as a key enabling tool
\nthat can be leveraged to drive broader energy innovation.<\/p>\n

The challenge is positioned as a talent development platform aligned with the broader
\nobjectives of ISES 2026, which seeks to accelerate sustainable energy adoption through
\ninnovation, collaboration, and thought leadership.<\/p>\n

SEDA Malaysia remains committed to nurturing future-ready talent and fostering
\ninnovation through strategic engagement programmes. Initiatives such as this webinar
\nand the SIC reinforce SEDA\u2019s role in supporting Malaysia\u2019s energy transition and
\nstrengthening the channel of skilled professionals ahead of ISES 2026.<\/p>\n

Supporting the Vision of ISES 2026: Sustainable Energy Beyond Borders<\/strong>
\nInsights from this Pre-ISES Forum will play a key role in shaping ISES 2026, further
\nstrengthening SEDA Malaysia\u2019s leadership in the sustainable energy agenda. As the
\nnation prepares for next year\u2019s summit, SEDA Malaysia remains dedicated to fostering
\nknowledge sharing, promoting industry collaboration, and enhancing cross-border
\npartnerships to accelerate Malaysia\u2019s energy.<\/p>\n

SEDA Malaysia also invites the public to save the date for the 7th International Sustainable
\nEnergy Summit (ISES) 2026, which will be held on 11\u201312 August 2026 at the Kuala
\nLumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Registration details will be announced soon.<\/p>\n
