National Renewable Energy Policy
Malaysia’s National Renewable Energy Policy focuses on several key initiatives, including implementing Enhanced Net Energy Metering (NEM) and solar leasing, advancing the Large Scale Solar Programme 3 (LSS3), and supporting the development of non-solar renewable energy projects. The policy also strengthens renewable energy facilitation programmes under the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia and aims to enable greater access to renewable energy sources nationwide.
Achieving 20% Renewable Energy (RE) Capacity Mix by 2025
NREP Main Objectives
The National Renewable Energy Policy aims to boost renewable energy’s contribution to Malaysia’s power mix, support industry growth, ensure affordable generation costs, protect the environment, and raise public awareness of the importance of renewable energy. The objectives are as follows :
- To increase RE contribution in the national power generation mix;
- To facilitate the growth of the RE industry;
- To ensure reasonable RE generation costs;
- To conserve the environment for future generations; and
- To enhance awareness on the role and importance of RE.
